Conjunctions is a series of 4 compositional studies which explore randomized harmony and periodicity through a set of 3 or 4 repeating parts of differing lengths, with varied lengths of rests between notes. This creates a pointillistic field with occasional chords when 2 to 4 of the separate parts happen to have notes sounding at coincident times.
Each study can be realized any number of times from the score to create new iterations with different loops and new interactions between loops.
These studies are dedicated to the astronomer Johannes Kepler, whose attempts to prove some of his own theories, which proved to be wrong, led to some of the most important discoveries in the field of astronomy. Sometimes following our minds down dead ends leads us to important discoveries. Sometimes they're just dead ends.
Set One is the first recording of the first set of realizations of the studies, recording the sequenced loops on a Meeblip Geode desktop analog synthesizer through overdubbing.
Purchase of the album includes a pdf copy of the score.
Further recordings are planned for acoustic instruments, electronic instruments and combinations of the two.
